2012年9月30日，中秋節，下午，我外出訪友。晚上回家後，我問女兒，「今天下午，妳和爸爸在家過得如何？」女兒回答我，「爸爸忙著電話問候朋友。不過，吳心白阿公打電話來找爸爸，他問，向妳邀稿的文稿寫了沒？他要趕著出書啦。」
哎呀！
吳心白大哥邀我寫稿的事，我已拖了很久的時日，我一度以為他只是隨口說說，沒想到，他既認真又堅持。
兩年前，2010年11月，我出版了《想為台灣做一件事》。我的先生江蓋世，不但精神上全力支持，實際上還投入心力幫我編輯文稿。我的書印好之後，蓋世告訴我：「斐顯，我們要送一些書給幫助過我們的朋友。其中一個是吳心白大哥。」
我了解蓋世的用心，別人對他好，他一定記得這份情，有機會一定要回報。我們把書寄給吳大哥。
吳大哥看完《想為台灣做一件事》後，來電表示，他很感動。他剛好要回安徽一趟，他要把這本書帶去，他想讓他的編輯朋友也看看這本書。
吳大哥自安徽返台後，迫不及待跟我們分享，他的編輯朋友對這本書的心得。吳大哥那時就對我說：「我要跟妳邀稿，請妳幫我寫一篇文章。」
你或許會很納悶，為什麼蓋世和我稱他為「吳大哥」，而我們的女兒卻稱他「吳阿公」？
坦白說，因為吳大哥和江蓋世是「忘年之交」。而我是江蓋世的太太，因為蓋世的關係，才得以認識吳大哥的。
我們口中的吳大哥，吳心白，1927年生，安徽省黟縣人。吳大哥生於動盪時代，一路風雨飄搖，從中國到台灣來。他早年當過牧童、公教人員；之後也做過軍人，官拜少校官階，退伍後轉任記者。他曾在黨外前輩李萬居的公論報任職過，後來任職於聯合報。1964年起，他從聯合報採訪組，請調到桃園擔任特派員，而後退休，在桃園養老。
吳大哥從聯合報退休後，依然筆耕不斷，陸陸續續已經出版了《痕跡》、《二白集》、《三友集》、《獨白》、《哥倆》、《三人行》、《就是為了愛》、《前進，夜靜思錄》、《吳心白的秘密檔案》等九冊書籍。

吳心白大哥身為外省人，在新聞線上工作數十年，卻又秉持理想，堅持「民主」理念；既能在黨外時代李萬居所辦的《公論報》工作，又能在《聯合報》長期工作；既與國民黨政要頗為熟稔，也與部分民進黨人士情義相挺。像吳大哥這樣的人，放眼當時台灣新聞界，真是少之又少。
四年前，2008年1月，民進黨總統與立委選舉結果，敗得一塌糊塗，執政8年的民進黨，濁水溪以北的立委席次，竟然掛零。蓋世一向關心政治，他好奇地前去桃園，拜訪他所熟識的吳心白大哥，想了解敗選因素。沒想到，吳大哥反而拿出一堆舊信件，讓蓋世大為吃驚。那幾封信，是二十多年前（1987年），蓋世從事反對運動時，先後寫給吳大哥的信。吳大哥居然為蓋世保留這些信，他知道蓋世喜歡寫作，希望這些信件，能做為蓋世以後寫回憶錄之用。
後來，他們聊著聊著，看多了桃園政治生態的吳大哥，竟然鼓勵蓋世「參選」桃園縣長。有了他的鼓勵，蓋世開始走訪桃園。他們都有共同的理想，希望桃園有更好的發展；因為桃園是蓋世的故鄉，也是吳大哥的第二個故鄉。
然而，曾經執政過的民進黨，早已不是那個「戒嚴前後，為理念，勇於衝撞國民黨禁忌與枷鎖」的民進黨，蓋世的努力，得不到民進黨的提名。那幾年，是蓋世政治上的低潮期，他有抱負，卻無法施展。而吳大哥在這一兩年內，給蓋世的關心與鼓勵更甚於已往。
2009年10月21日，蓋世帶我拜訪吳心白大哥。我初次看到吳大哥，覺得他和藹可親，沒有資深記者的架勢。蓋世曾經告訴他，我也是文字工作者，我們有共同嗜好——寫作，初次見面的距離，一下子就縮短了許多。
82歲的吳大哥，快人快語，說起話來神采奕奕，他對蓋世「堅持愛與非暴力」的理念極為欣賞，言談之間，他不住地向我誇說蓋世的理想性格。吳大哥和我們談起過去他從事新聞工作的點點滴滴，不但如數家珍，而且速度之快，猶如錄影帶「快轉倒帶」一般。
